Paris Ouest
Location :
Based at the Versailles-St Quentin University, Paris Ouest is a faculty scattered around the region west of Paris. Basically all big hospitals from the Yvelines and Hauts-de Seine region are part of our faculty.
The Medical faculty is based in St Quentin en Yvelines, 30 kms from Paris, near Versailles and its world famous castle.
Hospitals :
Hopital Ambroise Paré in Boulogne Billancourt : A few steps from the « Bois de Boulogne », the Longchamp Racecourse, and Roland Garros tennis courts, Ambroise Paré is about 1km from Paris. It’s an hospital crowded with students having coffees in the central alley. This is where students from 4th to 6th year take their classes.
Hopital Foch in Suresnes : not far from Paris too (about 2 kms), this private hospital is a big building with many corridors where you can easily get lost. Famous for its pneumology and thoracic surgery departements and for being a reference center about cystic fibrosis.
Hopital Raymond Poincaré in Garches : This one is 7km from Paris. Known for it’s Physic Medecine and Rehabilitation department. Huge Neurology center where paraplegics and tetraplegics can be treated by experienced doctors.
Hopital André Mignot in Le Chesnay-Versailles : About 20 kms from Paris.
CHI Poissy/St Germain : Far from Paris (40kms), Poissy is recommendated for it’s gynecologics department, where they deal with high risk pregancies every day.
Clerkships :
Most of the time you’ll be with french medical students during your clerkship. You will be allowed to do what « externs » do. (Students from the 4th year to 6th year), that means almost everything if you show motivation to doctors. Normally white coats and Scrubs are provided, but bring your own material such as stethoscope and reflex hammer (depending on the department).
Social Program :
Of course you can visit Versailles Castle to learn a bit more about french history.
Our proximity from Paris allows you to go there everyday to visit all these famous monuments you’ve dreamt of....Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Notre Dame... !
One of the biggest forest near Paris is the Bois de Boulogne, when you can go for a walk just outside Ambroise Paré’s hospital. You’ll meet there young french sporty people that jog everyday.
As we are located both near Paris and near the « countryside » in the suburbs, we can propose you all kind of activities. Our Lovely team from the Paris Ouest (PO) student’s associations would be very happy to welcome you !
